This couple flew in all the way from Washington for a ski trip to Aspen, Colorado. Jerome has been visiting Aspen almost every year since he was a kid, and this trip was extra special because it was the first time he finally got to bring Abby with him. What she didn’t know? He had been planning a surprise proposal the entire time.
He wanted something secluded, calm and beautiful, so we chose the bridge at the John Denver Sanctuary.
If you’ve never been, it’s a peaceful, scenic spot filled with flowing water, engraved poetry, and mountain views that feel almost unreal.

The Surprise Proposal at John Denver Sanctuary
Abby had no idea what was coming.
I arrived early to scout the area and do my usual “casually not suspicious photographer wandering around” routine. Every time I shoot a surprise proposal, I try to blend in, but I always feel like I’m one wrong movement away from getting caught pacing behind a tree.
When Jerome dropped to one knee on the bridge, everything came together perfectly.
The emotion, the surprise, the setting was quiet in the best way. One of those moments where everything slows down just long enough to feel unforgettable.
Aspen Engagement Photography Session
After the proposal, we continued the celebration with an engagement session throughout Aspen.
Before meeting up, I explored town and grabbed lunch at Felix Roasting Co , a spot I had been wanting to try for a while. It did not disappoint. The aesthetic alone is worth the stop if you’re in town.
We then wandered through downtown Aspen, which has this perfect blend of luxury, mountain charm, and cinematic light that makes every corner feel like a film still.
A Full Circle Moment at Hotel Jerome
One of my favorite parts of the entire session happened outside Hotel Jerome.
Yes, his name is Jerome. So naturally, we had to take photos there.
It was one of those small coincidences that makes the whole day feel even more personal and memorable. The historic architecture, warm tones, and mountain-town elegance made for some of my favorite frames from the session.
